All American Continues Trend of the Best of the Best

January 2005

A new high was set for sales in 2004 with the 52ND All American Jersey Sale becoming the highest averaging sale of 2004 on November 7, in Louisville, Ky.

The sale this year was sponsored by Merial® and was paced by leading JPI cow families, heifers sired by prolific sires of the past, and new National Grand Champions. The 70 lots of the breed’s premier Jerseys were sold for an average price of $5,863.57. This average made the 2004 All American Jersey Sale the fifth highest averaging sale in the 52-year history of the All American.

By the end of the day, nine individuals each sold for a price greater than $10,000. Top cow families were represented in this elite group as over 60 breeders from around the United States consigned their best to the prestigious annual event.

The Bulls

Four young bulls were syndicated in the sale representing families of high JPI cows and generations of type and production.

By becoming a member of a sire syndicate, breeders are entitled to semen when the bull is released as a young sire and then receive royalties and semen when released into active service. A couple of the previous graduates of the All American Sale are Ahlem Lemvig Abe-ET, Al-Top All American, Dutch Hollow Berrettas Choice-P-ET and Molly Brook Berretta Future-ET.

Leading the way at this year’s sale was MaackDairy Region-ET. A syndicate of 56 breeders and Semex, Madison, Wis., purchased this high-indexing son of BW Legion, JPI +217.

His dam is the Excellent-91% Sunset Canyon Lemvig Ribbon-ET.At the time of the sale she ranked eighth in the nation for JPI and has produced 28,320 lbs. milk, 1,267 lbs. fat, and 1,022 lbs. protein at 3-1 in 305 days.

“Ribbon” is a daughter of ISDK FYN Lemvig, JPI +252, and out of a Very Good Mason Blue Marker-ET, JPI +197, dam. The dam has over 31,000 lbs. milk in 365 days at 4-5. “Region” was consigned by Maack Dairy, Cloverdale, Ore.

A son backed by two generations of top 20 JPI cows, was the second high selling bull of the sale. Molly Brook Jace Freeze-ET sold to a syndicate of 72 members and Alta Genetics and Jerseyland Sires, Watertown, Wis.

“Freeze” is a descendant of the “Flower” family and is a son of Molly Brook Fair Frost. The day after the sale, she became the latest number one JPI cow. He is sired by Windy Willow Montana Jace, JPI +278, and carries a Parent Average (PA) of +1,783M, +73F, +65P and JPI +347.

His dam is Excellent-90% and is projected to over 27,000 lbs. milk at 3-2. The next dam is Excellent-92% and after the November genetic summaries, she ranks 21ST in the nation for JPI. “Freeze” was consigned by Molly Brook Farms, West Danville, Vt.

A young bull backed by two generations of Excellent-95% dams was the third high selling sire of the day at $30,825. A syndicate of 77 members and ABS Global, de Forest, Wis. purchased Senn-Sational Aprils Reflection.

The son of Schultz Brook Hallmark, JP +228, was born in June 2004 and has a PA of +1,180M, +59F, +45P and JPI +276.

His Excellent-95% dam is a daughter of WF/L&M Duncan Barber-ET, JPI +141, and has produced three consecutive records of over 20,000 lbs. milk, 1,100 lbs. fat, and 780 lbs. protein.

His Excellent-95% grandam is a daughter of Soldierboy Boomer Sooner of CJF, JPI +38. “Reflection” was consigned by Frank M. Senn and Sons, Newberry, S.C.

Rounding out the group of bulls was the low EFI sire, Prairie Harbour Bjorn-ET. With an EFI of 5.8%, this son of ISDK ODA Rinde, JPI +172, sold for $16,525 to a syndicate of 48 members and Genex/CRI, Shawno, Wis.

“Bjorn” is out of the world famous “Babe” cow family. His dam is a Schultz Brook Hallmark, JPI +228, daughter appraised Excellent-90% at two-years, eight months old. She just completed a record of 21,340 lbs. milk, 914 lbs. fat and 712 lbs. protein at 2-0.

The next dam is the well-known Long Distance Lester Babe-ET, Excellent-92%. She has a record in excess of 28,00 lbs. milk at 4-4. The next three dams are all appraised Excellent and have produced over 19,000 lbs. milk actual in a single lactation. “Bjorn” was consigned by Prairie Harbour Jerseys LLC, Glencoe, Minn.

The Females

For the second time in two years, Vermont consignors have offered their best and they have gone on to be the high selling females of the All American Sale.

This year a full sister to “Freeze” was the high selling female of the sale. Molly Brook Jace Frost-ET sold to a syndicate of breeders from Ohio for a price of $20,000.

Paul and Dawn Schirm and Family, Mike Shipley, Sherry Krebs and Howard Warner, West Salem, Ohio, purchased the 10-month old heifer sired by “Jace.” The beautiful, open-ribbed heifer had caught the eye of many breeders as they perused the lineup of sale cattle throughout the week.

“Frost” was the highest-indexing heifer of the sale with a PA of +1,783M, +73F, +65P and JPI +347. Her dam became the high JPI cow of the breed the day following the sale. The grandam has two completed records of over 24,000 lbs. milk and ranks 21ST in the nation for JPI.

The next dam is Molly Brook Sooner Fame-ET, Excellent-91%. She is a daughter of Molly Brook Fascinator Flower, Excellent-90%. She was consigned by Molly Brook Farms.

Two full sisters consigned by Sunset Canyon Jerseys and Nathan Jenson, Beaver, Ore., brought the next two high prices of the day.
